BVMNH Mission Statement

National Science Center’s ”Mobile Disovery Center” Van to visit Bakersfield

The Buena Vista Museum of Natural Hisory has partnered with the National Science Center and the U.S. Army to arrange a 2-day visit to Bakersfield of a “Mobile Discovery Center” (MDC) van, Thursday, June 7th and Friday, June 8th in the parking lot of the First Presbyrterian Church, H Street and Truxtun Avenue. One of only 3 such vans, the MDC is a 65-foot, 18-wheeler , staffed by Army personnel, that shows young people that studying science, technology and math can be exciting, fun, and essential to their future.

The MDC van combines three functions – a theater, a classroom and an exhibit hall---and incorporates hi-tech HDTV, DVD presentations, hands-on activities, and interactive science demonstrations. This year’s theme centers on technology and communication, focusing on high definition visual and artificial intelligence programs.

Seven 50-minute sessions will be offered each day, on the hours of 8, 9 ,10 , 11, 1, 2, and 3 o’clock. A maximum of 35 students are allowed in each session and limited to those students having just completed third to eighth grades. Area teachers will act as session escorts. Admission is free but requires a ticket for each student. Tickets may be picked up at the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History. Reservations will not be taken. Choice of sessions is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information—including an update on other ticket locations—call the Museum at (661) 324-6350. More information can be found at:
